His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, marked a significant milestone in Barcelona as he attended the graduation ceremony for students completing the inaugural Master of Science in Media Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation programme. The collaborative effort between the University of Sharjah's College of Communication and the University of Barcelona had strategic backing from Sharjah Media City (Shams).
Sheikh Sultan praised the graduates, highlighting the strong partnership between the two institutions as they work to advance knowledge, promote excellence, and foster global understanding. He likened them to ships setting sail, built to navigate uncharted waters and discover new possibilities – a journey that was just beginning, not ending.
This vision aligns with the UAE's values, he explained, where historical prosperity has been linked to engaging with and contributing to the global community. The master's programme is a modern manifestation of this belief, bridging Sharjah and Barcelona through their cultures and traditions of academic excellence. Students benefit from the intellectual strengths of both nations, preparing them for successful careers in an increasingly interconnected world.
Sheikh Sultan also underscored the programme's role as a hub for generating new ideas and critically examining, interpreting, and disseminating information. He acknowledged that the digital era has transformed the speed and reach of information, granting graduates the power to create stories, platforms, and narratives connecting with global audiences – but cautioned this power requires humility, integrity, and insight.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Sharjah Media City (Shams) and the Faculty of Philology and Communication at the University of Barcelona, cementing a robust collaboration between academia, industry, and the creative economy. This agreement will provide graduates with practical experience, diverse perspectives, and necessary skills to tackle real-world challenges.
Following the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan presented certificates to the 24 graduates, offering his congratulations and best wishes for their future careers. The event marked a significant step in the commitment to collaboration between Sharjah and Barcelona's academic institutions.
