Defence guru Shaun Edwards has joined the Red Roses coaching set-up in a consultancy role, which will last until the conclusion of the WXV Global Series. This move sees the 59-year-old, known for his extensive experience in men's rugby, take on his first role within women's rugby.
Red Roses head coach John Mitchell described Edwards' credentials as “exceptional” and stated that Edwards expressed interest in working in an international women’s setup for the first time after his tenure with France ended in June. Edwards is already with the team and will help them prepare for their upcoming match against New Zealand at Allianz Stadium this Saturday, before travelling with the squad to Canada and the USA next month.
Edwards previously coached defence for Wales, winning four Six Nations titles, and for France, securing three Six Nations titles. While he cannot win a trophy with the Red Roses in the WXV, he aims to help improve their victory record following their 39-game winning streak ending with a 26-26 draw against Canada last Saturday.
