Pound-for-pound boxing star Claressa Shields has indicated that a highly anticipated fight with Welsh boxer Lauren Price is now expected to happen in 2027. Shields, 31, suggested the bout could take place in the first quarter of that year.
Shields, a multi-weight undisputed world champion and reigning undisputed heavyweight champion, is scheduled to move down to middleweight to challenge Australia's WBA and WBC world champion Kaye Scott on August 15 in Atlanta, Georgia. She expressed a desire to fight again at middleweight by the end of the current year.
Price, 32, is the unified welterweight champion and an Olympic gold medallist. Shields believes Price, who would need to move up two divisions to middleweight, might take a warm-up fight before facing her. A two-fight deal between Shields and Price had reportedly been agreed by Price's promoter Ben Shalom after their face-off in April, but Price has not fought since.
