The Sicilian town of Naro has become the latest to offer houses for as little as one euro (85p). The medieval town, located in the province of Agrigento, has joined the Case a 1 Euro scheme to sell off dilapidated homes.
This urban regeneration initiative, which began in 2008 in Salemi, aims to reclaim unused properties and encourage new residential businesses in underpopulated areas. Naro stated the initiative seeks to "contribute to the recovery and future of Naro's historic centre."
Buyers can submit an application indicating their property interest and planned project. However, homes selected for the scheme are typically run down and require significant structural improvements. Among the currently listed properties, three to six-bedroom detached homes are available for sale and are described as "to be renovated."
