Lawrence Kenwright, the founder of Liverpool's Signature Group, has been disqualified from acting as a company director for five years, following significant investor losses. The ban, which began on Tuesday 18 August 2026, comes after investors lost over £4.8 million through Signature Works Gold Limited, a company Kenwright directed.
The Insolvency Service found that Kenwright, 60, allowed Signature Works Gold Limited to distribute promotional material containing false and misleading information. This material related to the sale of desk space to investors in three Liverpool city centre properties, implying investors would gain a legal interest in the properties, which the company did not own.
Kevin Read, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, stated that Kenwright's failures as a director had serious consequences, leading to substantial losses for investors. While not accused of direct fraud, Kenwright's conduct was deemed to fall below expected standards for company directors.
Signature Works Gold Limited was wound up in December 2022 after concerns emerged about investors being misled. Kenwright signed a disqualification undertaking, a legally binding agreement, just days before he was due to appear for trial.
