Universal Credit Statistics Updated to May 2026

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has released updated Universal Credit statistics, covering claims, starts, people, and households up to May 2026.

  • Universal Credit statistics have been updated to include data up to May 2026.
  • The statistics cover the number of claims, starts, people, and households on Universal Credit.
  • Breakdowns by postcode are currently unavailable due to missing geography data, but action is being taken to reinstate them.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published its latest Universal Credit quarterly statistics, providing data up to May 2026. These figures detail the number of people who made a claim or started on Universal Credit, as well as the total number of individuals and households receiving the benefit.

Breakdowns of Universal Credit claims and starts by postcode have been unavailable since April 2022 due to missing geography data. The DWP states that this information has now been captured, and actions are underway to reinstate these breakdowns in future releases. Updates regarding this will be provided via Stat-Xplore and the GOV.UK website.

Additionally, interactive maps previously showing Universal Credit data at local authority and Jobcentre Plus levels have been withdrawn as the software is no longer supported. A replacement interactive tool, named Examine-a-Stat, is currently under development. This new tool is expected to offer improved functionality, including interactive maps, and will be made available in due course.
