Rugby league legend Sir Kevin Sinfield has successfully completed his final endurance challenge, the '7 in 7: The Grand Finale', raising money for motor neurone disease (MND) causes. He crossed the finish line at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, just before the Super League Grand Final.

This latest feat saw Sinfield complete seven ultramarathons over seven days, starting in Hull on September 27 and visiting all 12 Super League clubs. The fundraiser is dedicated to the memory of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who passed away in 2024.

Since beginning his annual challenges in 2020, Sinfield and his team have collectively raised more than £13m for the MND community. Funds from this challenge will support organisations including the MND Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, Darby Rimmer Foundation, MND Scotland, and the Irish MND Association.

Speaking to the crowd, Sinfield remarked, "The rugby league community has got right behind the MND community and Rob would be so proud to see how you've supported and cared, and showed your love for a community that really needs us." Lindsey Burrow, Rob's wife, told BBC Radio 4's PM that her late husband "would have been incredibly proud" of Sinfield's efforts.

During his journey, Sinfield was joined by members of the MND community for an extra mile each day, and received surprise visits from royals including The Prince and Princess of Wales, and the Princess Royal, alongside sporting figures like Sir Gareth Southgate and Josh Warrington.

Why this matters: The challenge has raised significant funds and awareness for motor neurone disease research and support, continuing the legacy of Rob Burrow.
