Sir Paul McCartney has recounted making a personal plea to Sir Sam Mendes, director of upcoming Beatles films, regarding his on-screen height. The 84-year-old expressed a desire not to be portrayed as smaller than John Lennon, noting their similar real-life heights.
McCartney, who will be played by Paul Mescal, joked about complaining after seeing a recreation of the Abbey Road crossing. He told the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast that Mescal appeared "markedly shorter" than the actor playing Lennon.
Sir Sam Mendes reportedly reassured McCartney that all the actors were the same size, attributing the perceived difference to "just the stride pattern." The films, set for release in 2028, will each focus on a different member of the band.
McCartney also recalled a similar concern with the 2009 film Nowhere Boy, where his character was depicted as smaller and "wimpy" compared to John Lennon.
