The Met Office has issued a heatwave warning for large parts of the UK, with temperatures set to soar above 30°C for several days. The warning, which covers England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, is in place from June 15th to 20th.

According to the Met Office's forecast, the hottest temperatures will be experienced in the south-west of England, where temperatures could reach as high as 35°C. Elsewhere, temperatures will range from 28°C to 32°C.

The heatwave is expected to bring extremely hot conditions, with sunshine and light winds. However, residents are advised to stay hydrated, take regular breaks in shaded areas, and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day.

In Scotland, temperatures will be slightly cooler, ranging from 20°C to 25°C, but the Met Office has still issued a yellow weather warning for the western Highlands.

Residents are advised to check on vulnerable neighbours, especially the elderly and young children, and to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The Met Office has also issued advice on staying cool and safe during the heatwave, including keeping windows closed during the hottest part of the day, using shades or blackout curtains, and avoiding using ovens and other heat-producing appliances.

Why this matters: The heatwave poses a significant risk to public health, especially for vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and young children. Residents are advised to take precautions to stay safe and hydrated.

What this means for you: What this means for you: Make sure to stay hydrated and take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, especially if you have young children or elderly neighbours.
