A solo female traveller in Egypt faced an aggressive taxi driver demanding more money, before two local men intervened to pay the fare and help her find accommodation.

  • A 25-year-old solo female tourist encountered an aggressive taxi driver in Dahab, Egypt, who demanded additional payment.
  • Two Egyptian men in the same shared taxi intervened, paid the driver, and helped the tourist find a hostel, ensuring she was charged a local rate.
  • The tourist later reconnected with the men, who were medical students, and maintained contact with them for years.

A solo female traveller in her 20s, visiting Egypt shortly after the turn of the century, experienced an aggressive encounter with a taxi driver in Dahab. After taking an overnight bus from Cairo, she boarded a shared taxi at approximately 3am.

Upon reaching Dahab, the driver, with whom she could not communicate due to a language barrier, became increasingly aggressive, reportedly demanding more money. Two Egyptian men, also passengers in the taxi, intervened. They informed the tourist of the driver's demands, then paid him themselves before he departed.

The men subsequently assisted the tourist in finding a hostel, ensuring she was charged the local rate. She later located them working in an internet cafe and discovered they were medical students. They invited her to their hometown, where she met their families and friends, and they remained in contact for years.
