South Korea's space agency, KASA, has released images of the Moon after a part of a SpaceX rocket crashed into its surface on Wednesday. The lunar orbiter Danubri captured these images following the impact, which occurred at around 06:35 GMT.
SpaceX has stated that the impact was not intentional. The empty upper stage of a Falcon 9 rocket, which was approximately the size of a five-storey building, was predicted by scientists to hit the Moon at about 5,400mph (8,700km/h).
The Falcon 9 rocket had been in orbit since January last year, after launching from Florida. While the impact did not pose any danger to Earth, an astronomer at the University of Cambridge, Matt Bothwell, expressed concerns about the increasing amount of space debris.
