The creators of the animated series South Park have mocked Donald Trump after securing an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program. The show, which is available on Paramount+ in the UK, has frequently featured the US President in its recent seasons, with storylines including depictions of him in a relationship with Satan, having a micro penis, and engaging in sexual activity with Vice President J.D. Vance.
Following their Emmy win, a graphic was shared on South Park's Instagram account showing Trump holding an Emmy trophy with his trousers and underwear around his ankles, accompanied by the message: “You finally got your Emmy.” The post was also captioned: “Congratulations to Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and the entire South Park team on their Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program!” This appears to satirise Trump's previous nominations for the US version of The Apprentice in 2004 and 2005, where he did not win an Emmy.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators, stated they initially intended to limit their mockery of Trump to a single episode. However, they continued after receiving pushback, including a White House statement last July that claimed the show “hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years.” Parker explained that this reaction motivated them to persist, saying, “We’re not gonna stop. We’re going to do it every single week.” He also clarified that their inclusion of Trump in the show was because “politics became pop culture,” rather than a shift to being overtly political.
