US President Donald Trump is anticipated to visit the Irish Open this weekend, an event being held at his resort in Doonbeg, County Clare. Golfer Rory McIlroy has stated that the tournament will feel like a "different" spectacle due to the President's expected presence during its latter stages.
Mr. Trump's visit is part of a two-day trip to Ireland, during which he is scheduled to meet Irish President Catherine Connolly and hold a bilateral meeting with Taoiseach Micheal Martin. He may also present the Irish Open winner with the trophy on Sunday evening, amidst a significantly enhanced security presence at the property he acquired in 2014.
McIlroy, who has previously played golf with Mr. Trump, acknowledged the logistical challenges that the visit might bring, including potential crowd limitations. He commented, "It's going to be different with him being here but we're here to play a golf tournament and it's a good golf course and keep our head down and play."
The six-time major winner is among a strong field at Doonbeg, which also includes LIV players such as Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Tom McKibbin. The 2026 LIV season concluded early following the cancellation of its team championship.
