Multi-billionaire Elon Musk's rocket company SpaceX has announced it will construct its largest launch site yet in the southern US state of Louisiana. The $100bn (£73bn) project, named Starbase, is due to commence construction next year.
The 125,000-acre (50,585-hectare) facility will expand SpaceX's operations beyond its current Texas headquarters and Florida locations. SpaceX stated the site will support thousands of Starship flights annually for missions to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
The company aims to launch its first Starship flight from the new base in 2029. SpaceX also indicated that the Louisiana facility is expected to create over 3,000 jobs in the region.
