St Michael's Mount, a small island located approximately 500 metres from mainland Cornwall, is accessible to visitors by a cobbled causeway during low tide. This tidal island is looked after by the National Trust and the St Aubyn family.
For much of the day, the island is cut off by the tide. However, when the tide is high between 1 April and 31 October, a regular boat service transports passengers to and from the mainland from three landing points: Chapel Rock, Gwelva, and Top Tieb.
Once on the island, visitors can explore a harbourside village, the castle's medieval stonework, and subtropical terraced gardens. The castle contains historic rooms, artwork, and artefacts, while the gardens, initially designed in 1878, feature plants typically found in warmer climates due to Cornwall's milder weather.
