The iconic sci-fi film, Star Wars: A New Hope, has been dubbed into the Welsh language for the first time. This new translation, produced by Lucasfilm and Disney, is a collaboration with Welsh language broadcaster S4C and the Welsh Government, celebrating the film's upcoming 50th anniversary next year.
A cast of Welsh talent has provided voices for the beloved characters. Matthew Rhys takes on Han Solo, Rhys Ifans voices Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards is Princess Leia. Mark Lewis Jones is Darth Vader, and Osian Morgan provides the voice for Luke Skywalker.
Welsh First Minister Rhun Ap Iorwerth stated that seeing a Welsh language version of the film, using the talents of Welsh actors, is "fantastic." Lucasfilm co-president Lynwen Brennan, who was born in Wales, expressed gratitude for the collaboration, hoping Welsh speakers will enjoy the film in their native language.
Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd is scheduled to be broadcast on S4C and its platforms starting from Christmas Day onwards.
