Steve Lacy may have revealed Sadie Sink's 'Spider-Man' role as Jean Grey

Singer Steve Lacy may have accidentally revealed that Sadie Sink's character in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is Jean Grey during a red carpet interview at the film's premiere.

  • Steve Lacy, whose song 'Oh Yeah?' features in the film, was interviewed during an official livestream of the premiere.
  • Lacy referred to a character named 'Jean' as the villain, stating, 'She’s the villain but there’s a reason to her madness.'
  • Fans had speculated that Sadie Sink's unnamed character in the film was Jean Grey, a significant X-Men character.

Sadie Sink's role in the new film 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' may have been inadvertently disclosed by singer Steve Lacy during an interview at the film's premiere. Lacy, whose song 'Oh Yeah?' is featured in the movie, was asked about his favourite character during an official livestream.

Lacy responded, "You know what? Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain but there’s a reason to her madness." The interviewer then questioned if this was a spoiler.

'Jean' is understood to be a reference to Jean Grey from the X-Men franchise. The X-Men characters are now under Marvel's ownership after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. Many fans had previously speculated that Sink's unnamed character would be Jean Grey, and Lacy's comments appeared to confirm this rumour, leading to reactions on X (formerly Twitter).

Critics who saw the film earlier this week have offered spoiler-free reactions, describing it as "awe-inspiring" and the best of Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies.

Why this matters: This potential reveal suggests the introduction of a major X-Men character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a development anticipated by many fans since Disney's acquisition of Fox.
