English Heritage is providing visitors with an opportunity to experience solitude within the Stonehenge monument during August. Those who purchase advance tickets will be automatically entered into a draw to win 20 minutes alone at the centre of the ancient site.
This initiative marks the first time such access has been offered since admission charges were introduced 125 years ago. Normally, visitors view the stones from a surrounding path, with the monument cordoned off by a rope barrier.
During the solitary visits, rules still apply, meaning visitors must not touch, lean on, or sit on the stones. However, the experience allows for closer appreciation of the monument's scale and details, such as lichen patterns and carvings.
