Strong winds of up to 70mph are battering England and Wales as Storm Benjamin sweeps across the UK, prompting Met Office warnings for travel disruption and power cuts.
Coastal areas and higher ground in the South West, Wales and central England face the strongest gusts, whilst inland areas are experiencing winds of 45-55mph - powerful enough to damage trees and temporary structures. Heavy rainfall is accompanying the winds, with 20-30mm expected widely and up to 50mm possible over higher terrain.
Southern and western England alongside much of Wales are bearing the brunt of the storm's impact. Rail and ferry services face likely disruptions, whilst drivers are being urged to take extreme care due to strong crosswinds and surface water flooding on roads.
Scotland and Northern Ireland are escaping the worst conditions. Northern Ireland may see blustery showers and moderate winds, whilst Scotland remains largely on the storm's periphery with increased cloud and scattered rain but winds below warning levels.
The Met Office is advising residents to secure loose outdoor items, avoid coastal paths during high tides, and check travel updates before journeys. Temperatures will feel particularly cold at 7-10°C with the wind chill factor.
Residents across affected areas are urged to monitor Met Office updates and local news for the latest guidance as the storm continues its path across the country.
