Storm Dave will batter North East England with 60mph winds over the Easter bank holiday weekend, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for the region.
The warning takes effect from Good Friday morning through to late Saturday evening, covering Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, and parts of Teesside. Coastal areas face the strongest gusts, with inland regions also experiencing significant winds.
Travel disruption is expected across road and public transport networks. Power cuts are likely as strong winds threaten overhead lines, whilst coastal communities must brace for large waves and dangerous spray.
Despite mild temperatures of 8-12°C, wind chill will make conditions feel considerably colder. The rest of the UK will also face unsettled weather, with Scotland and Northern Ireland experiencing strong winds and rain, though less severe than the North East. Wales and southern England can expect sunshine and showers with moderate winds.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items including garden furniture and trampolines, check on vulnerable neighbours, and watch for debris on roads. High-sided vehicle drivers face particular risks and must exercise extra caution.
The Met Office continues monitoring conditions and will update warnings as necessary throughout the weekend.
