Wind gusts of up to 70mph and heavy rain are set to batter the UK, with the Met Office issuing yellow warnings across Wales, Northern Ireland and parts of England as stormy conditions threaten widespread disruption.
The strongest winds will hit exposed coastal areas and higher ground, with inland gusts reaching 50-60mph. Heavy rainfall poses a particular threat to western regions, where accumulations could trigger localised flooding and treacherous driving conditions. Despite mild temperatures of 8°C to 12°C, wind chill will make it feel considerably colder.
Wales and Northern Ireland face the worst conditions under dual warnings for wind and rain. In England, yellow wind warnings cover parts of the South West, North West and northern areas. Scotland may escape the highest-level warnings but still faces blustery conditions and rain, particularly across southern and western areas.
Transport networks are braced for significant disruption, with road, rail and ferry services likely to face delays or cancellations. Power cuts remain a key concern as strong winds threaten to bring down trees and damage overhead lines.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items including garden furniture and trampolines. The public should avoid coastal paths and exposed areas where large waves and flying debris pose serious risks.
Emergency services and local authorities are monitoring conditions closely. People in affected areas should stay updated through official Met Office channels and check flood warnings from the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
The unsettled weather pattern could persist for several days, with further bands of rain and wind expected throughout the coming week, forecasters warn.
