A student has been arrested after a principal and a teacher were shot at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, France, on Monday morning. The suspect, reported to be 14 years old, was detained immediately after the incident.
Aubagne Mayor Jean-Pierre Squillari stated that no children were harmed and the teachers' injuries are not life-threatening. The 53-year-old headteacher was reportedly shot in the leg, and a 37-year-old teacher was hit in the thigh.
Education Minister Edouard Geffray confirmed the incident on social media, stating that two staff members were victims of gunshot wounds. He is scheduled to visit the scene with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez on Monday afternoon.
Reports from French media, citing sources familiar with the investigation, suggest the incident is not believed to be linked to ongoing protests concerning school conditions.
