A student at a Catholic junior high school in Zamboanga City, southern Philippines, was shot dead by a fellow student, according to a local official. The alleged shooter subsequently took his own life.
Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso told local radio that the suspect managed to bring a .45-calibre pistol into a classroom. The suspect reportedly fired at a teacher but missed, then moved to another classroom where a student was shot and later died.
Authorities have stated the situation is under control and there are no more active shooters. This incident occurs two months after a high school shooting in Tacloban City, where three students were killed and 20 wounded.
