A wildfire on heathland near the Suffolk coastline has resulted in the evacuation of an estimated 100 to 150 people. Suffolk Fire Service battled the blaze at Dunwich Heath, which covered an area the size of 200 football pitches, and declared a major incident.

The community of Westleton rallied to assist those displaced. Westleton Village Hall provided support to about 76 people, and villagers offered accommodation in their homes for 47 individuals on Wednesday night, according to Paul Ashton, deputy leader of East Suffolk Council.

Barbara Buckley, a trustee of Westleton Village Hall, described the community response as "unbelievable," with places found for everyone, including pets. The Salvation Army also provided refreshments to firefighters and emergency crews.
