Super League clubs have received an opening investment offer from Australia's National Rugby League (NRL) of around £7 million per season for the next five years. This deal would grant the NRL a 10% stake in Super League for each year of investment.
However, clubs are reportedly set to reject the offer, believing the competition's value to be significantly higher. A crucial meeting among clubs next Thursday is expected to lead to the formal rejection of this initial bid.
Despite the likely rejection, the offer is seen as a significant step, with expectations that further negotiations could lead to a deal. NRL officials are anticipated to arrive at the end of this month, potentially bringing the parties closer to an agreement that could impact Super League's long-term financial and broadcast future.
As part of their offer, the NRL is understood to have introduced broadcaster DAZN into negotiations. Sky Sports, Super League's long-standing partner, is set to show three games a week from the start of next year, with DAZN potentially covering the remaining matches.
