The Swiss Football Association (SFV) has confirmed it has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino's bid for another term as Fifa president. The organisation's executive committee reversed its support this week, having previously endorsed his candidacy in June.
The SFV stated that the decision followed a comprehensive reassessment of recent developments. It cited various incidents that raise fundamental questions regarding leadership, governance, transparency, and decision-making processes within Fifa.
Infantino, who was born in Brig, Switzerland, is seeking re-election in March and has been Fifa president since 2016. He has faced increasing opposition, including from football associations in England, Wales, France, and Serbia, and has also faced calls for his resignation.
The SFV stated that key questions regarding Fifa's responsibilities and decision-making processes have not been convincingly clarified, making it unable to justify continued support for Infantino's candidacy.
