Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai believes the team's frustration from last season can fuel a new title challenge, but he stressed the squad must deliver "something special" if no more players are signed before the transfer deadline.
Szoboszlai, who was named the club's player of the year last season, noted that the team's collective performance declined, leading to Arne Slot's departure. He insists that the poor title defence should prompt a strong reaction in Andoni Iraola's first season as head coach.
The Hungary captain expressed his eagerness for the new season, stating, "I can’t wait [for the new season], honestly." He added that the team is motivated and ready to improve after not achieving their goals last season.
Liverpool have brought in central defender Jérémy Jacquet and versatile forward Victor Muñoz this summer. However, with Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konaté having left as free agents, the squad remains light in several areas, despite their pursuit of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
Szoboszlai also revealed that new head coach Iraola prefers to speak to players the day after a game, a trait he observed during pre-season friendlies. He also mentioned that no conversations have taken place regarding the vacant vice-captaincy positions, though he would be proud to accept the role if offered.
