Teachers Across Wales and England Honoured in Regional Awards

Ten outstanding educators from Wales, the South West of England, and the West Midlands have been recognised for their dedication to teaching and promoting high-quality education in regional awards.

In Wales, Bethan Guilfoyle from Treorchy Comprehensive School was awarded the Welsh Assembly Government prize for her efforts to promote the Welsh language. Cathy Young of Pembroke School was named Outstanding New Teacher of the Year, while Dan Roberts from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr received the Governor of the Year award.

The South West of England saw Angela Palin from St Mellion C of E School in Saltash recognised as Headteacher of the Year in a primary school. Christopher Fogarty of Downham Special School in Plymstock was named Outstanding New Teacher, and Julie Bevan from Stoke Damerel Community College, Plymouth, received the award for Teacher of the Year in a secondary school.

In the West Midlands, Cardinal Wiseman RC School in Coventry was acknowledged for sustainable schools. Ceridwen Roberts-Thomas from Yoxall St Peter's CE Primary School in Burton-on-Trent received the award for next generation learning. Lee Nicholls of St Mark's CE Primary School in Stoke on Trent was named Outstanding New Teacher.

The regional awards highlight individual and institutional efforts to foster high-quality education, with organisations such as the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) sponsoring the event. Roles recognised include teaching assistants like Jennifer Phillips from The Hollies School in Cardiff.
