A teenage boy is due to appear in court today after an alleged assault in Sydney on Wednesday night resulted in a 17-year-old sustaining a "near-complete amputation" of his hand.
New South Wales police were called to Redfern at approximately 6pm yesterday, where they found the 17-year-old with a partially severed hand. Police allege he was assaulted by another boy, aged 15, with a knife in a car park on Morehead Road.
NSW paramedics attended to the older teenager, who was taken to hospital with injuries to his right arm. It was not yet clear whether the hand was reattached.
Following inquiries, police stopped a car on Redfern Street early on Thursday morning. A 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and breach of bail. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before a children’s court today.
