Police have confirmed that a 17-year-old girl was killed in a sword attack at Brinell School in Fagersta, central Sweden, on Friday. Two boys, aged 12 and 17, were also seriously injured in the incident, with another person sustaining minor injuries.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack. Police are treating the case as murder and attempted murder. Investigators have conducted two house searches linked to the suspect.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and opposition leader Magdalena Andersson visited the school on Saturday morning, where tributes have been laid. Students had recently returned to classes following the summer break when the attack occurred on Friday afternoon.

Police confirmed they fired shots after arriving at the scene but did not state if the alleged attacker was hit before being detained. Local media reported the suspect was a former student and was wearing a helmet.
