A 14-year-old boy has drowned after entering the water at a dock in east London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) and Metropolitan Police were called to Millwall Outer Dock near East Ferry Road at approximately 18:50 BST on Monday.
The teenager's body was recovered at about 22:30 and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed, according to police.
Det Supt Oliver Richter of the Met Police stated that their thoughts are with the boy's family and loved ones. He urged the public to remember the serious dangers of open water as warm weather continues.
LFB assistant commissioner Patrick Goulbourne confirmed that firefighters responded to reports of a teenager in the harbour. The LFB had previously urged Londoners, particularly children, to be careful in the capital's waterways due to ongoing hot weather. Since 2020, there have been over 100 accidental drownings across London.
