A teenager has been convicted of murder after a stabbing incident during Eid celebrations in London's East End in June 2025. Mohammed Ibrahim Mehmood, 18, was found guilty of murdering 19-year-old Junaid Khan at the Old Bailey yesterday. The court heard that Khan had been involved in a disturbance on the evening of 24 June, during which he was stabbed by Mehmood.
Prosecutors alleged that Mehmood, who was 17 at the time of the incident, had deliberately stabbed Khan, causing him to die from his injuries. The defence had argued that Mehmood had acted in self-defence, but the jury rejected this claim.
The case has raised concerns about youth violence and knife crime in the UK, with many calling for greater action to be taken to address the issue. The Metropolitan Police Service has said that it is working to tackle the root causes of violence and to improve community safety.
