A 14-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being stabbed at Heartlands High School in Birmingham. The incident occurred on [date] at approximately 1.20pm, according to West Midlands police, who were alerted to the stabbing by the ambulance service.
This is the second such incident in just over a week, following the death of 15-year-old Kiyan Prince, who was stabbed outside his London school eight days ago.
The immediate area around the school was cordoned off by police, with forensic examinations taking place at the scene. The teenager was taken to Dudley Road Hospital, where he is currently in a stable condition.
The incident comes just two days after the government launched a nationwide knives amnesty in an effort to reduce knife crime.
Knife crime has been a growing concern in the UK, with a recent report by the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) showing a 7% increase in knife crime offences between 2020 and 2021. In response, the government has pledged to increase funding for community programmes aimed at reducing knife crime.
