Teenager Thomas Rew Earns First England Call-Up for Australia T20 Series

England have selected teenager Thomas Rew for his first international call-up for next month's T20 series against Australia, with uncapped seamer Eddie Jack also included in the squad.

  • Thomas Rew, an 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, could become the third 18-year-old to play men's international cricket for England.
  • Uncapped seamer Eddie Jack, 21, has also been included in the T20 squad.
  • Jofra Archer returns for the ODI series following a period of rest, while Jacob Bethell is back after a knee injury.

England has announced its squad for next month's T20 series against Australia, featuring the first international call-up for teenager Thomas Rew. The Somerset wicketkeeper-batter, aged 18, could become only the third player of that age to represent England in men's international cricket if he plays in the five-match contest Down Under.

Joining Rew in the T20 squad is uncapped 21-year-old seamer Eddie Jack. Both players previously toured Australia with the England Lions. National selector Marcus North stated that the T20 team, under captain Harry Brook, is looking forward to testing itself in Australian conditions.

For the preceding ODI series, Jofra Archer returns after a period of rest, and Jacob Bethell is back from a knee injury that had sidelined him since July. Ben Duckett will depart after the tri-series against Pakistan, with his place in the ODIs going to Bethell. Spinners James Coles and Mason Crane will also leave after the Pakistan series, though Coles will rejoin for the T20 leg.

Why this matters: The inclusion of young, uncapped players like Thomas Rew and Eddie Jack signals England's focus on developing future talent for the next 20-over World Cup in late 2028.
