Megan Hilton, a 17-year-old from Liverpool, saved five lives through organ donation after her death in July 2025. Megan, who had hoped to become a children's nurse, suffered a brain aneurysm.
She had joined the NHS Organ Donor Register and discussed her wishes with her family. Her father, David Hilton, stated that having these conversations meant they "knew exactly what Megan wanted" when they were informed she would not survive.
Megan donated six of her organs. Her family has chosen to share her story during Organ Donation Week, which runs from 21 to 27 September, to encourage others to sign up and help save lives.
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) has issued a warning about a "sharp" decline in organ donation, with deceased donation rates 9% lower than at the same point last year. Currently, 8,700 people are awaiting a transplant.
