Tens of thousands of Year 12 students in New South Wales, Australia, have commenced their final school exams. The first paper, the HSC English 1 exam, was sat by approximately 75,000 students across the state on Tuesday.
One of the questions posed to students was: “How does the composer of your prescribed text offer you opportunities to examine assumptions about human strength and vulnerability?”
Students from Canley Vale high school, including Kayden Tran and Mary Alnimry, were among those who took the test. While some students expressed initial stress, others felt content after completing the exam.
An English teacher at Canley Vale high school, Alana Miller, noted that teachers also experience nerves for their students. The principal, Effie Niarchos, described the HSC as a significant rite of passage for Year 12 students.
