London commuters can now track buses in real-time and receive alerts when approaching their fare caps, following a major update to Transport for London's TfL Go app.
The live bus tracking feature allows passengers to see exactly where their bus is on a map, providing greater certainty about arrival times and reducing waiting anxiety at stops. This mirrors the popular real-time tracking already available for Tube services, extending the capability across London's extensive bus network.
The app will also now alert users as they approach their daily or weekly fare caps. TfL's fare cap system means contactless and Oyster card users won't pay more than a set amount within 24 hours or across a Monday-Sunday week, regardless of journey numbers. The alerts help passengers manage travel spending and may encourage additional journeys once caps are reached.
Step-free journey planning has been improved to better serve passengers with mobility needs, parents with pushchairs, and those carrying heavy luggage. Enhanced walking routes now provide more comprehensive "last mile" guidance, reflecting TfL's push towards greater accessibility.
The updates represent a significant expansion of the TfL Go app's capabilities since its launch as a journey planning tool. By providing more detailed and proactive travel information, TfL aims to help passengers make informed decisions and create a smoother commuting experience across the capital's transport network.
