The Transport for London (TfL) has unveiled ambitious plans to extend the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), linking Beckton Riverside with Thamesmead in East London. The proposed link would significantly improve connectivity between the two areas, potentially saving residents countless hours stuck in traffic.
According to TfL, the project's main objective is to 'reduce journey times, increase reliability and enhance the overall passenger experience'. By providing a direct transport link, commuters can say goodbye to lengthy bus journeys and congested roads. In fact, TfL estimates that this extension will reduce congestion by up to 25% on major roads.
Local residents are being encouraged to share their thoughts on the proposed extension through an online survey, which will be open until 22 February 2024. Additionally, a series of public events have been scheduled for those who prefer face-to-face discussions with TfL representatives. These sessions will provide a valuable opportunity for community members to air their concerns and gain insight into the project's finer details.
TfL has committed to investing £1.5 billion in London's transport network over the next five years, and this proposed DLR extension is just one part of that endeavour. The aim is not only to enhance road safety but also to improve air quality by reducing reliance on private vehicles.
