The crowd at Tomorrowland went wild last night when The Edge made a shock appearance on stage, joining forces with Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix for the world premiere of their brand new collaboration – 'Fireflies'! As the Belgian festival reached fever pitch, U2's iconic guitarist brought his unique sound to the main stage, weaving in and out of Garrix's electronic beats alongside thousands of screaming fans.
Footage from the electrifying performance has been doing the rounds on social media, with The Edge jamming live as the previously unheard track was unleashed upon the crowd. It's no wonder the energy was palpable – 'Fireflies' is a belter, building to a spine-tingling chorus that will have you singing along in no time: "Fireflies, you and I are fireflies".
The buzz around this track is already reaching fever pitch, with fans able to pre-order or pre-save the single ahead of its release next Friday (24 July 2026). But will 'Fireflies' make an appearance on either Garrix's or U2's forthcoming albums? The answer, for now, remains a mystery – but one thing's for sure: this collaboration is going down in history as a highlight of Tomorrowland's opening day.
This isn't the first time Martin Garrix has worked with members of U2, though. He's had a fruitful partnership with Bono and The Edge on 'We Are The People', the official UEFA Euro 2020 anthem released back in 2021 – and he even lent his production skills to U2's 'Your Song Saved My Life' for the 'Sing 2' animated film soundtrack.
U2 have been keeping fans on their toes this year with a string of EP releases. First came the impassioned 'Days Of Ash', followed by the more introspective 'Easter Lily' (dropped on Good Friday, naturally). And just last week, they gave us our first taste of what's to come – 'Street Of Dreams' is an absolute banger, with that unmistakable Edge guitar sound and a hint of Spanish flair courtesy of Bono's lyrics. With their 15th studio album still to be titled but set for release soon (their first collection of new material since 2017's 'Songs Of Experience'), the anticipation is building – and this new collaboration with Garrix only adds fuel to the fire.
