Third arrest in Tasia Fortune death as police say hanging was staged

A third individual has been arrested in connection with the death of Tasia Fortune in Mississippi, with police stating that the scene where her body was found hanging had been staged.

  • Eric Clark, 45, has been charged with murder.
  • Police stated an autopsy concluded the hanging scene was staged.
  • Fortune was reportedly dead for two to three days before her body was discovered.

Eric Clark, 45, surrendered to authorities on Friday and has been charged with murder, according to the Jackson police department (JPD). Mr Clark is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Police disclosed on Friday that an autopsy investigation concluded "the scene and the hanging were staged". Investigators believe Ms Fortune was killed elsewhere before her body was placed in a hanging position.

Mr Clark's arrest follows the earlier charges of murder against Earnest Lloyd Jr and Jarques Ratliff in connection with Ms Fortune's death. Ms Fortune, a mother of four, was discovered on 3 August hanging from a tree.

The JPD's robbery-homicide division stated it will continue its investigation until all individuals believed to be involved are held accountable.
