Three arrested after one-year-old boy taken to hospital with serious injuries

A woman and two men have been arrested on the Isle of Wight after a one-year-old boy was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

  • Police were alerted to concerns about the boy's welfare on Wednesday after he was seen at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.
  • A 26-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man from Ryde, and a 26-year-old man from Shanklin were arrested.

Two men and a woman have been arrested following a one-year-old boy's admission to hospital on the Isle of Wight. Hampshire and Isle of Wight police were alerted to concerns about the boy's welfare on Wednesday after he was seen at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

The boy remains in hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries. Police stated that those arrested are known to the child.

A 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man from Ryde, along with a 26-year-old man from Shanklin, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. The pair from Ryde were also held on suspicion of assault and ill-treatment or neglect of a child likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury. All three have been bailed until 26 November with strict conditions as inquiries continue.
