Three people have been charged in connection with anti-migrant protests that took place at a marina in Gosport, Hampshire, on Tuesday night. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered after mistakenly believing a small boat carrying asylum seekers was due to arrive.
Police arrested six individuals during the protests. Those charged include Shannon Dodds, 32, of Leonard Road in Gosport, who faces two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker. Sally Pearson, 31, of Forton Road in Gosport, has been charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker and a racially aggravated public order offence. Toby Matthews, 33, also of Forton Road in Gosport, faces a charge of common assault of an emergency worker.
Ms Dodds and Ms Pearson have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 24 September. Mr Matthews was granted bail and is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on 9 November.
