Naples is a fascinating, complex and multi-layered city, according to a guide published by Condé Nast Traveller. The writer, who has visited for over 30 years, says Naples today is safer, more tourist-friendly and cleaner than ever before, though it remains Italy's most beguiling city.
The guide suggests a three-day itinerary starting at the historic Gran Caffè Gambrinus for an espresso and cornetto, followed by visits to the Palazzo Reale and the Teatro San Carlo. It also highlights the Toledo metro station's public art project, where a metro ticket costing under €2 allows access to transformed underground stations.
Day one continues with the morning market on Via della Pignasecca, lunch at Trattoria da Nenella, and an afternoon exploring the Spaccanapoli area, including the Cappella Sansevero and the Duomo. The guide recommends dinner at Europeo di Mattozzi.
Day two begins at Castel dell'Ovo and Borgo Marinari, followed by a passeggiata along the seafront and exploring the Chiaia neighbourhood. Afternoon options include the beach at Posillipo or the Certosa di San Martino in Vomero.
The guide notes that Rocco Forte is due to open a hotel in Naples in 2027, and that 2027 will also see the America's Cup come to the city.
