TikTok has stated that a self-harming livestream by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton remained online for 15 to 20 minutes due to a "moderator error". Police safely recovered Hilton from his Miami home on Tuesday.

  • Perez Hilton's self-harm livestream was online for 15 to 20 minutes due to a "moderator error", according to TikTok.
  • Police recovered Hilton from his home on Tuesday, 4 August, and he is now receiving medical attention.
  • TikTok's Community Guidelines forbid self-harming content, and Hilton's account has been suspended.

TikTok has attributed a "moderator error" to the fact that Perez Hilton's self-harming livestream remained online for between 15 and 20 minutes. The social media platform's spokesperson told Deadline that an automated moderation system flagged the video for removal within minutes, but an error prevented its prompt cessation.

On Tuesday, 4 August, followers of the celebrity blogger reported the video to police. Authorities subsequently "safely recovered" Hilton from his Miami home and transported him to a local hospital for medical attention. His account was later suspended for violating TikTok's Community Guidelines, which prohibit self-harming content.

Hilton's family released a statement on his website, confirming he is receiving medical care and asking for privacy during this time. They expressed gratitude for the "overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers."
