Josh Tongue has incorporated the wobble-seam delivery into his bowling, using it for the first time in a match to take a wicket as England established a strong position against Pakistan at Edgbaston. Tongue, who discussed the technique with Ollie Robinson, stated he will continue to use it after its initial success.
Pakistan were dismissed for 133, with Tongue claiming four wickets for 42 runs. Robinson and Jofra Archer contributed six wickets between them. Saud Shakeel was Pakistan's top scorer with 43 runs.
England concluded the opening day on 156 for four, holding a 23-run lead. Emilio Gay scored 60, while Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 52. Razaullah, one of Pakistan's three debutants, dismissed England captain Joe Root and Gay.
