BBC radio presenter Tony Livesey has left the broadcaster, following allegations concerning his previous career as editor-in-chief of David Sullivan’s Sport newspapers. Staff at 5 Live, where Livesey presented a four-day-a-week show from 10pm to 1am, were informed he would not be returning.
Livesey had stepped away from his role after the allegations first surfaced. His departure comes after a BBC Panorama investigation accused David Sullivan, co-owner of West Ham United, of sexually exploitative behaviour over several decades. Sullivan has denied these allegations.
The Panorama investigation also raised questions for Livesey, 62, with one alleged victim claiming he arranged a meeting between her and Sullivan. Livesey has stated he has “no recollection” of introducing the woman to Sullivan and that it was “not part” of his job.
Heidi Dawson, controller of 5 Live, informed BBC staff on Monday that Livesey had decided to leave his presenting role. She noted his 16 years at 5 Live, including a decade as the voice of the Drive show.
