Saturday's sporting schedule includes the Tour de France Femmes finale, the Carabao Cup first round, and a rugby union Test between Japan and Australia.
The Tour de France Femmes stage eight is the longest of this year's race at 171.9km. Starting in Sisteron, the route heads south along the Route Napoléon before turning west along the River Var, with climbs including Col des Robines and Col de Toutes Aures, then two more ascents before the finish on Nice's Promenade des Anglais.
In football, the Carabao Cup first round features 29 matches, with West Ham hosting Portsmouth at the London Stadium. West Ham, freshly relegated, play their first League Cup first-round tie since 2011, when they lost 2-1 to Aldershot at home. Portsmouth have progressed from two of the three prior major cup ties between the clubs.
In rugby union, Australia face Japan in Osaka. Australia are aiming for back-to-back Test wins for the first time in a year, after beating Italy in July to end a six-match losing streak. The match is Les Kiss's first in charge of the Wallabies, while Eddie Jones, who has twice coached Australia, leads Japan.
