The Tour de France Femmes continues today with a challenging stage five, covering 140km from Mâcon to Belleville-en-Beaujolais. This hilly route features eight categorised ascents and many uncategorised climbs, accumulating 2,900m of climbing.
While not the most punishing stage on paper, it has the potential to be very demanding. General Classification (GC) teams are expected to maintain control, with the possibility of an overall contender, such as Demi Vollering, attempting an attack on the final climbs.
Away from the race action, news yesterday focused on additional checks by UCI commissaires for irregular chest padding. This padding is reportedly being used by riders to enhance aerodynamics.
