Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel seasoning has been pulled from e-commerce platforms in Singapore and South Korea. The action follows the discovery that the product contains poppy seeds, which are banned in both countries.
Poppy seeds are prohibited because they can become contaminated with opiates during harvesting, even though they do not naturally contain them. Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau confirmed on Wednesday that over 20 online listings for the seasoning have been removed.
Last week, authorities in Seoul stated that the seasoning tested positive for morphine and codeine, opiates found in the poppy plant's sap. Singaporean authorities have advised anyone possessing bottles of the seasoning to dispose of them, citing a strict zero-tolerance policy towards controlled drugs.
