Transfer Window Heats Up: Barcola, Álvarez, Fernández, and Gakpo Eyed by Top Clubs

With the summer transfer window nearing its close, several high-profile players, including Bradley Barcola, Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández, and Cody Gakpo, are reportedly attracting significant interest from Premier League giants.

  • Bradley Barcola's potential move to Liverpool is a major transfer story this summer, with Liverpool reportedly seeking a fast forward who can press and play on either flank.
  • Julián Álvarez is a target for Arsenal, with Thierry Henry expressing admiration for the Manchester City forward's versatility and relentless pressing.
  • Manchester City are reportedly looking at Enzo Fernández to bolster their midfield after Rodri's departure to Barcelona.

The summer transfer window is entering its final week, with several prominent players potentially on the move. Bradley Barcola's possible transfer to Liverpool has been a dominant storyline, as the club seeks a fast forward capable of pressing and playing on either wing. Barcola, who spent 77% of his minutes at Paris Saint-Germain on the left, recorded a peak sprint speed of 32.7km/h last season and scored 11 Ligue 1 goals last season, following 14 the year prior.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Julián Álvarez, despite winning the Premier League title last season. Thierry Henry has praised Álvarez's versatility and work rate, noting his ability to press, play alone, and drop deep. Álvarez applied more pressures per 90 minutes than any other player in the Champions League last season, and Atlético Madrid, who have fended off Barcelona's interest, insist he is not for sale, though Álvarez has reportedly expressed a desire to leave.

Following Rodri's move to Barcelona, Manchester City are reportedly considering Enzo Fernández to strengthen their midfield. Fernández, who scored 10 league goals last season, could offer qualities such as dictating play from deep and finding forward passes. He ranked seventh among Premier League central midfielders for forward passes last season.

Cody Gakpo could be on the move if Barcola joins Liverpool, with Spurs reportedly agreeing personal terms with the 27-year-old. Manchester City are also said to be interested in Gakpo, who scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions in 2024-25, when Liverpool won the title.

Why this matters: The potential transfers of these key players could significantly impact the competitive landscape of the Premier League and European football.
